Description
Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) and flaxseed oil, which comes from flaxseed, are rich sources of the essential fatty acid alpha-linoleic acid — a heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acid. Flaxseed is high in soluble fiber and in lignins, which contain phytoestrogens. Similar to the hormone estrogen, phytoestrogens might have anti-cancer properties. Flaxseed oil doesn't have these phytoestrogens.
Flaxseed can be used whole or crushed, or in a powder form as meal or flour. Flaxseed oil is available in liquid and capsule form. People use flaxseed and flaxseed oil to reduce cholesterol and blood sugar and treat digestive conditions. Some people also take flaxseed to treat inflammatory diseases.

Health benefits
1.Lower cholesterol
Similar to flaxseed, flaxseed oil may help lower cholesterol levels. The ALA in linseed oil may lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or "bad" cholesterol.
2.Fight cancer
Flaxseed oil may help fight certain types of cancer.
3.Treatment of atopic dermatitis
Flaxseed oil may also be beneficial to the skin and hair, for example to relieve certain symptoms of atopic dermatitis.
4.Reduce the risk of diabetes
Flaxseed oil may also help reduce the risk of diabetes. A 2015 systematic review analyzed studies to determine the effects of flaxseed oil on diabetic patients.
5.Reduce inflammation
In a meta-analysis, flaxseed and its derivatives reduced circulating C-reactive protein, which is a sign of inflammation. However, these results only appear in obese adults.
