What is Elderberry Oil?

There are a bunch of different types of Elderberries. According to Norms Farms, Elderberry species include Black Elderberry, Red Elderberry, Blue Elderberry and Ornamental Elderberry. It's worth noting that some parts of the Elderberry shrubs are poisonous.

These leafy shrubs produce small white flowers that develop into deeply coloured berries. The oil is most often produced through a cold pressing / oil press of the seeds. This oil can also be produced as a by-product of elderberry juice production.

Elderberries have been used for medicinal, culinary and skincare purposes for centuries, especially amoung Native Americans and European herbalists. The berries have been referred to as the "medicine chest of the country people" and their healing power has even been detailed in the writings of Hippocrates and Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist Pedanius Dioscorides (40-90AD).

This is due to the anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties of the berries. These properties help reduce swelling and calm the skin, which makes it suitable for treating acne-prone and dull skin.
